WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) - The Town of Wrightsville Beach plans to use left over money from a state grant to purchase new equipment for the police department.
In July of 2011, the Town received a $214,000 grant to install an automated license plate recognition system. The town was able to save a significant amount of money by going with the low bidder. The State has determined that Wrightsville Beach will be able to use the savings on other equipment.
Town Manager Bob Simpson is proposing that they use the funds to replace the police department’s aging Mobil Data Terminals in all 11 vehicles. Simpson is recommending they contract with Dell for the 11 units which would only cost the Town about $9,000 after applying the grant money.
