Kids, families invited to annual Touch a Truck event

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The Junior League of Wilmington and Capital Ford Lincoln of Wilmington will be hosting an educational community event that provides children with a hands-on opportunity to see and touch heavy machinery and meet the people who build, protect and serve Wilmington.

From 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, kids of all ages can explore a fire engine, cement truck, school bus, tow truck, a bulldozer and more at the fourth annual Touch a Truck event, according to Mayfaire Town Center’s website.

Kids will also get the chance to see the Vita Link Helicopter land, and New Hanover Regional Medical Center employees will be on hand with an extra-large ambulance, showing kids and adults how to do CPR.

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT/WSFX) – Bullying is getting a lot of attention these days in our schools, online and even in the workplace.

WECT and Fox Wilmington are teaming up with the Wilmington Police Department to take this issue head-on.

We’re co-hosting a public screening of the documentary Bully, free of charge at Thalian Hall April 18. The showing starts at 7:00 p.m.

While the event is free, you will need to get a ticket so we know how many people to expect.

You can pick up a ticket at the TV station, located at 322 Shipyard Boulevard, the Thalian Hall Box Office, or the Wilmington Police Department.

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Bring the kids out to Chick-fil-A in Mayfaire tonight for a fun-filled family event.

According to the restaurant’s website, Tuesday’s family night will involve Paper Mache plant pots. The fun takes place from 5:30-7 p.m.

This is a great way to get ready for those spring plants.

Three-time champion crowned at spelling bee

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) - A three-time champion was crowned at Wrightsville Beach Elementary Spelling Bee this week.

Anjeli Smith has now won as a third, fourth and fifth grade student. This championship took 65 rounds to win, according to Spelling Chairman Russell Ebelherr.

"It was by far the most exciting Spelling Bee in WBS history," Ebelherr said.

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Kids can enjoy a meal with the Easter Bunny soon.

From 9 to 10 a.m. March 27, the Bunny Brunch will be taking place at the Mayfaire Chick-fil-A, according to a news release.

For $5.50, kids will get three Chicken Minis, a small fruit cup and an apple juice box.

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) – A big perfect for the Easter season will be read soon at the Wrightsville Beach Museum of History, according to an event organizer.

Woody and the Hens, which is about an egg hunt, will be read by its author Saturday, March 23.

Light refreshments will be served, and folks of all ages are invited.

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Take your kids to the Chick-fil-A in Mayfaire tomorrow for a Veggie Tale theme night.

According to the Chick-fil-A calendar, kids are encouraged to dress like their favorite Veggie Tale character.

Employees will take pictures and feature it on information screens in the dining room.

There will be a fun craft and a chance to win a set of Veggie Tales DVDs.

The themed kid’s night takes place 5:30-7 p.m.
