SOUTHEASTERN, NC (WECT) - Customers can purchase 49-cent medium Slurpee drinks Memorial Day Weekend, beginning Friday, May 24 until Monday, May 27, at any participating 7-Eleven.

According to a news release, 7-Eleven is on a mission to make this summer #AWESUMMER by offering great deals, discounts, coupons and refreshing treats all summer.

Southeastern King Mackerel Club hosting Fishin' with Special Friends

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) - Area groups are making special arrangements for special friends to have a chance to catch a big one. 

The Southeastern King Mackerel Club is holding its annual "Fishin' with Special Friends" event June 16 from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Johnnie Mercers Pier.

The event pairs volunteers with a mentally or physically disabled partner. The two then work together, trying to reel in a prized fish.

Big Church gives in big way

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - One of the largest churches in South Eastern North Carolina is donating to the victims of the Oklahoma tornados with a very sizable donation. Port City Community Church is donating $10,000 to the Summaritan's Purse.

The church shared a link on its Facebook page that explains how the church is responding: pray, send money, and send people.

Tickets on sale for upcoming family fun night at Airlie Gardens

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Mark your calendars! Airlie Gardens will host a family fun night Saturday, June 15, 5-8 p.m. that features Ribbit the Exhibit.

The night will include games, crafts, garden tours, nature activities, music and a sneak peek of the new Airlie Gardens Bug Zoo.

This event is $5/person in advance and $8/person the day of the event. Space is limited, so get your tickets early.

Tickets are on sale now at Airlie Gardens - 300 Airlie Road and the New Hanover County Parks & Gardens Office at 230 Government Center Drive, Suite 120 during regular business hours.  Children age two and older must purchase a ticket.

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) – Beachgoers weren't the only ones soaking up the sun Saturday – a seal that’s been spotted in the area recently decided to enjoy the nice weather, too.

The seal was seen hanging out near Shell Island Resort, where onlooker Chandler Moeller said police kept a watchful eye over the furry guy to make sure no one bothered him.

Earlier this week, fishermen saw the seal off of Johnnie Mercer's Pier.

Wrightsville Beach seeking input on new entryway project

Wrightsville Beach seeking input on new entryway project

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) – The Town of Wrightsville Beach and the North Carolina Department of Transportation are working together to fund a project to improve the entryway into the town, according to a spokesperson for Wrightsville Beach.

The town is seeking input from area residents, and will be hosting an open house workshop with DOT officials and a registered landscape architect.

The meeting will take place Thursday, June 6 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the conference room at town hall, located at 321 Causeway Drive.
