WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) – A special board of aldermen meeting is scheduled to be held Thursday at town hall, according to a press release from a Wrightsville Beach town spokesperson.
The reason for the meeting states, “To consider a supplemental budget action that must be addressed before the end of the month involving money to be transferred to the state associated with fines levied by our police and park ranger. “
According to Town Manager Bob Simpson, the meeting is essentially regarding a bookkeeping issue.
The town had planned on collecting around $10,000 in fines and fees, a portion of which has to be transferred to the state’s account.
When the finance officer returned from vacation, the town was notified that the number would actually be around $60,000. In the last week alone, the Wrightsville Beach Police Department has issued around 80 citations.
The town can’t transfer the money to the state without a vote from the full board, which is why they are calling the special meeting, as they won’t meet again before the end of the month.
The meeting will be held at 5 p.m.
