WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Earlier this month, many cast their fishing poles at Wrightsville Beach to help out one family, and it paid off tremendously.
Heather Pope Foster lost her battle to lung cancer in June, leaving her husband, five-year-old son, and five-month-old daughter behind.
To help the Fosters, Starling Marine hosted their annual Summer Celebration Fishing Tournament in honor of Heather, with the proceeds from the event helping her family pay for her remaining medical bills.
As a result of the fundraiser, $18,000 was raised, according to a press release from Starling Marine, and a check in that amount will be given to the Fosters.
“We raised more money this year than ever before - and by a long shot,” said Bryan Starling in a statement. “It was a great event with approximately 425 guests attending the dinner & auction, and just under 30 boats fishing in the tournament. We are humbled by the number of people that joined us in celebrating Heather, and are especially thankful for everyone who volunteered and donated to make this year’s Summer Celebration the best ever.”
The summer celebration fishing fundraiser results are as follows:
