WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) - Environment North Carolina is calling on the state to pick up the pace on offshore wind explorations.
The National Wildlife Federation released a report that aims to help identify and implement key steps in furthering the development of off shore wind power.
The hope is that these reports will prompt North Carolina to set goals in developing offshore wind turbines.
Wrightsville Beach Mayor Cignotti supports off shore wind turbines and says North Carolina must act quickly before falling behind the curve.
"It’s time to act and it's time to look at all the different resources and implement several of those that work best for our nation,” he said.
The report also gives statistics that show North Carolina as a top spot in harnessing the wind for its power.
