WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) - The weather caused some problems for those competing in the Surf to Sound Challenge at Wrightsville Beach.
Ninety paddle boarders took off from the ocean and the sound in front of the Blockade Runner hotel Saturday morning.
Organizers say that because the wind was so strong, and the surf was so choppy, several paddle boarders couldn't make it out beyond the waves in the ocean.
Paddle boarders came from all around the world, including a former Olympian.
Proceeds will go to For Masonboro, a nonprofit group that supports wildlife on beaches.
