The Olivia Act inspires local photographers to give free photo shoots

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – With the recent events in Connecticut, communities around the country and world are trying to honor the victims and Wilmington is no different.

You may have already heard of The Olivia Act, which was created and named after one of the children killed in Newtown.

A photographer, who wishes to be anonymous, came up with the idea.

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – If you’re planning on checking out the Enchanted Airlie light display, you only have a few days left to do so -- Saturday is the last day for the event.

The Enchanted Airlie tradition began in 2005 and is a great way to bring the whole family together. Those in attendance can enjoy the lighted garden displays at their own pace.

Display times are 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. pm each evening.

Time running out to register for Saturday's 5K Jingle Bell Run

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) – If you want to run in Saturday's 5K Jingle Bell Run, scheduled to be held at the Wrightsville Beach Museum of History at 9 a.m., time is running out.

Online registration for the event has closed, but you can do so in person from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday or from 8 a.m. to 8:40 a.m. Saturday at the Wrightsville Beach Museum, according to the website for race.

Participants are invited to dress up in their most festive Christmas costumes and to enter a costume contest.

New Year’s Eve masquerade will benefit Wrightsville Beach victim group

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – If you don’t have any New Year’s Eve plans yet, consider going to an event that will raise money for a good cause.

A black tie event will be held at the St. Thomas Preservation Hall, located at 208 Dock Street from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Money raised will go to The Centre of Redemption in Wrightsville Beach, a group that offers housing, education, counseling and more to women who are recovering from sex trafficking.

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Kids, pets and adults can all get their pictures taken with Saint Nick at Santa Village, located at Mayfaire Town Center.

According to Mayfaire’s website, Santa Village is between Stone Creamery and Long Horn Steakhouse on International Drive.

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – If you’ve ever wanted to see the Budweiser Clydesdale horses in person, you’ll have the chance to do so Sunday.

The horses and their wagon will be making an appearance at Mayfaire Town Center 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., according to Mayfaire’s website.

The horses’ 18-wheeler will pull up and in the parking lot behind hh greg before walking around the shopping center.

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – If you and your family don’t have plans for Saturday, consider checking out a new holiday tradition called Jingle on the Beach.

The event is sponsored by Wilmington Wellness Pilates, and it will include music, live performances, face painting, crafts, a visit and pictures with Santa, and more.

Tickets are $10 for children, and the event is free for parents.
