WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A rising amount of vandalism has Wilmington city leaders considering a lock for a public garden at night.

The New Hanover County Arboretum is open to the public, offering a number of classes and programs to residents.

In the last couple of weeks, people have damaged various plants, exhibits and the garden’s gazebo area.

City leaders are discussing different ways to cut down on the vandalism and will consider closing the garden at night. Other options include working with neighbors to keep an eye on the garden or installing surveillance cameras.
