National Hurricane Preparedness Week is fast approaching

News Release from Wrightsville Beach:

May 26 – June 1, 2013 is National Hurricane Preparedness Week. The goal of this national public education campaign is to present information about hurricane hazards and provide knowledge that can be used to TAKE ACTION! Each day of Hurricane Preparedness Week has a different educational theme.

Sunday, May 26th – Hurricane Basics

Monday, May 27th – Storm Surge

Tuesday, May 28th – Wind

Wednesday, May 29th – Inland Flooding

Thursday, May 30th – Forecast Process

Friday, May 31st – Get a Plan

Saturday, June 1st – After the Storm

Tickets on sale for upcoming family fun night at Airlie Gardens

Tickets on sale for upcoming family fun night at Airlie Gardens

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Mark your calendars! Airlie Gardens will host a family fun night Saturday, June 15, 5-8 p.m. that features Ribbit the Exhibit.

The night will include games, crafts, garden tours, nature activities, music and a sneak peek of the new Airlie Gardens Bug Zoo.

This event is $5/person in advance and $8/person the day of the event. Space is limited, so get your tickets early.

Tickets are on sale now at Airlie Gardens - 300 Airlie Road and the New Hanover County Parks & Gardens Office at 230 Government Center Drive, Suite 120 during regular business hours. Children age two and older must purchase a ticket.

Wrightsville Beach seeking input on new entryway project

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) – The Town of Wrightsville Beach and the North Carolina Department of Transportation are working together to fund a project to improve the entryway into the town, according to a spokesperson for Wrightsville Beach.

The town is seeking input from area residents, and will be hosting an open house workshop with DOT officials and a registered landscape architect.

The meeting will take place Thursday, June 6 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the conference room at town hall, located at 321 Causeway Drive.

Boy Scout Gulf Stream Open continues through weekend

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) - For the second year in a row, area anglers cast their bait in support the Boy Scouts of America. The fishing tournament began Thursday and continues into the weekend.

Fishermen will be after billfish (sailfish, marlin, and swordfish) and meat fish (king mackerel, tuna, dolphin, and wahoo). Points are awarded for catching and releasing billfish and by weight on all meat fish.

Open Studio presents Satya Trunk Show this weekend

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Just in time for Mother's Day, Open Studio will host a Satya Trunk Show through the weekend.

According to Open Studio's website, Satya designs so that anyone can find a piece of jewelry that warms their heart because it is so innately true to them.

Organizers will offer a free Satya piece during the trunk show event.

Open Studio is located at 1055 Military Cutoff Road.
