WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) – Four people had to be rescued off the coast of Wrightsville Beach on Wednesday, according to a news release from the Coast Guard.
New Hanover County Emergency Management and 911 Communications issued a report to Coast Guard Station Wrightsville Beach around 3 p.m., the release stated. The Coast Guard crew, aboard a 41-foot utility boat, found a 20-foot vessel approximately 10 miles of the coast with its stern already submerged. The four boaters were transferred from their vessel to shore aboard the utility boat.
“The main thing is to be prepared for anything,” stated Petty Officer 2nd Class Micah Kennedy. “They had all the safety equipment that they needed aboard, even exceeding the number of lifejackets that they needed.”
The vessel was reportedly left at the scene and the owner is making arrangements to salvage it.
