WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Golfers and golf lovers are getting ready for an eventful weekend as the 11th annual Landfall Tradition at the Country Club of Landfall gets underway.
The event invites 17 of the finest college women's golf teams to compete, including number one ranked Arizona and number five ranked Duke.
Over the past ten years, more than 1,100 golfers have played in this tournament representing 62 universities and 31 different states.
"It's one of the best collegiate tournaments of the year," said director Tim Meeker. "There's just so much to offer the athletes, spectators and club members."
Not only is the tournament lucrative for Wilmington-area businesses, but it has also put forward nearly $200,000 for UNCW's golf program.
"Not only do you have a great venue, and a great city to host it in, you have the absolute best players," said Cindy Ho, UNCW's head women's golf coach. "The whole event is just first class, and it's a truly memorable experience for anyone involved."
The event will be at the Nicklaus Golf Course and play will start Friday, October 26 at 8:30 a.m. The tournament runs through Sunday, and admission is free.
