WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) – SurfBerry is the latest frozen yogurt bar to open in the area. Located on Wrightsville Beach, the business is celebrating its grand opening Monday.

So the obvious question you ask yourself is: What’s worse, the zombie apocalypse or the creation of another frozen yogurt bar in Wilmington? Maybe frozen yogurt businesses know something we don’t know. Maybe the zombies will crave a sweet frozen treat and not brains.

On the other hand if sugar truly is a drug that we are all being addicted to, will the government start regulating frozen yogurt bars? It’s just good business. Simply search for “frozen yogurt” online and you find a plethora of choices.

And why does it seem most froyo bars have berry in them? PolarBerry, BrrrBerry, SurfBerry?

It seems like everyone is going to cash in on frozen treats. That also makes the fifth frozen treat business on Wrightsville Beach.

SurfBerry will give away free yogurt from 4 until 9 p.m. on Monday The business, located at 222 Causeway Drive, will also have live music.

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The North Carolina constitutional amendment defining marriage as a union between one man and one woman passed with 61% of voters being in favor of the amendment. In all, only seven counties in the state voted to oppose the amendment. Those were: Wake, Orange, Durham, Chatham, Mecklenburg, Buncombe and Watauga.

In New Hanover County, the amendment passed by only 198 votes. A total of 21 precincts in the county voted against the amendment, and most of them came from the downtown and beach areas in the county.

The constitutional amendment reads, "Marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this State. This section does not prohibit a private party from entering into contracts with another private party; nor does this section prohibit courts from adjudicating the rights of private parties pursuant to such contracts."
