McIntyre-Rouzer recount cost taxpayers $18,000

The recount of votes in the NC7 Congressional race cost taxpayers more than $18,000

SOUTHEASTERN NC (WECT) –  The recount of votes in the District 7 Congressional race between Mike McIntyre and David Rouzer cost taxpayers at least $18,000, according to figures from the North Carolina State Board of Elections.

The twelve-county recount on November 26-28 verified McIntyre's victory over Rouzer in the general election. McIntyre lost one vote in the process, winning a ninth term in Congress by 654 votes out of more than 336,000 cast in the race.

Elections officials put the recount cost at $18,096, with only Robeson County not reporting a total cost.

Political documentary to be screened at library

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A screening of a political documentary will take place Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Northeast Regional Public Library, according to a news release.

The film, called Dishonorable Disclosures, explores leaks on Intelligence and Special Operations missions and accuses President Obama of endangering lives by leaking such information.

The video was created by Special Operations OPSEC Education Fund.

Members of that group, along with former Navy SEAL Benjamin Smith, will be presenting the screening.

The film will be screened in the Live Oak Room.

NHC Board of Commissioners looking for residents to apply to boards, committees

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners is looking for interested county residents to apply to be appointed to several boards and committees, according to a news release from a county spokesperson.

Citizens are encouraged to apply for spots in the following:

  • NHC Adult Care Home Community Advisory Committee
  • NHC Board of Health (Category: professional engineer)

SOUTHEASTERN NC (WECT) – If you’re planning on heading to the polls Nov. 6, make sure you’ve registered to vote by Friday at 5 p.m., which is the last chance you'll have to do so.

Environmental group, WB mayor push for offshore wind explorations

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) - Environment North Carolina is calling on the state to pick up the pace on offshore wind explorations.

The National Wildlife Federation released a report that aims to help identify and implement key steps in furthering the development of off shore wind power.

The hope is that these reports will prompt North Carolina to set goals in developing offshore wind turbines.

City, county leaders to discuss growth, finances at Thursday meeting

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Wilmington City Council and New Hanover County Commissioners are scheduled to meet Thursday morning to discuss a variety of issues, according to a press release from a county spokesperson.

Leaders present will talk about growth and finances in the Oleander Room at the Executive Development Center, which is off of Military Cutoff Road and next to the Northeast Branch of the NHC Public Library.
