New Hanover County tax office accepting payments now

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – If you’re looking to go ahead and pay your real estate tax bill, now is the time to do so -- New Hanover County officials will begin mailing this year’s real estate tax bills out so that they arrive in residents’ mailboxes next week, according a news release from county officials.

Taxes are due Sept. 1 of this year, and can be paid without interest until Jan. 7, 2013, but the tax office is already accepting payments. 

"Residents who have appealed their revaluation will not receive their tax bill until their appeal process with the Board of Equalization and Review is complete," said a county official in a statement.

Real estate agent using pop song to get some business

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - One local real estate agent is hoping you'll call her, maybe. Jessica Edwards decided to make a video of a popular song to try to get some business.

Edwards created a video to the tune of Carly Rae Jepsen's song "Call me Maybe" and posted it you YouTube.

Baseball players, football cheerleaders and even military members have all gotten a lot of clicks online from the videos they've created. For some of them, it's about having fun. But for Edwards, it's also about building business.

"It's given my sellers more exposure for their properties more buyer views for their homes. Everything in social media is to have fun with it. I think that's where we get the most impact," she said.

Her video has had more than 4,000 views in four days.

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – New Hanover County Commissioner Brian Berger’s home went on sale at the county courthouse Tuesday in a foreclosure auction.

According to a legal ad listed in Lumina News, Berger and Karyn Crichton are the owners of a house on Commons Way. Crichton is Berger’s ex-girlfriend and an employee of New Hanover County’s planning department. She has not lived at the house for several years.

Berger was nowhere in sight Tuesday as his house was sold to the highest bidder – Wells Fargo Bank. Wells Fargo bought the home for $211,917. It has ten days to complete the sale. If they do complete the sale, anyone still living at the home will have 30-60 days to move out or be evicted.

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Homes on the market in New Hanover, Brunswick and Pender counties will be open to the public on Saturday, for the 26th annual Parade of Homes.

This year, 49 homes built by local builders will be on the tour, ranging in prices from $130,000 to more than $2 million.

The parade is from noon until 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and it is sponsored by the Wilmington Cape Fear Home Builders Association.

Admission to the homes is free.

First $3 million home sold since 2010

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) -  A local real estate company has sold the first $3 million home in the area since 2010.

Intracoastal Realty reached the milestone this month, selling a house located at 14 Southridge Road in Wrightsville Beach.

This is the first sale over $3 million in Brunswick, New Hanover, and Pender counties since October 2010 and the first $3 million-plus sale on Wrightsville Beach since September 2009, according to local MLS data.

The nearly 5,000 square foot home is one of Wrightsville Beach’s premier oceanfront estates.

The last $3 million-plus home sold in the area was an Intracoastal listing on Figure Eight Island.

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) - One of Wilmington's largest real estate companies is about to get even bigger.

At a special meeting in Wrightsville Beach on Thursday, it was announced that Caldwell Banker Sea Coast Realty of Wilmington is merging with Caldwell Banker Advantage of Raleigh and Fayetteville.
