Wrightsville Beach to host annual Pier 2 Pier Swim

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) – A swim race will soon be held at Wrightsville Beach, according to SetUpEvents.com.

The eighth annual Pier 2 Pier Swim will be held Saturday, Sept. 15 at 9 a.m. and is described as a “1.7 mile point to point open water (ocean) swim race with prevailing current.”

The swim is held between the Johnny Mercer and Crystal piers.

March of Dimes 5K to be held Saturday

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The fourth annual March of Dimes 5K Run for Healthier Babies will be held Saturday at Mayfaire’s TrySports, according to a news release.

Money raised from the event goes towards supporting research and educational programs to help babies have healthy starts, including groups such as the North Carolina Preconception Health Campaign, the Prenatal Quality Collaborative of North Carolina and March of Dimes NICU Family Support Project at UNC Children’s Hospital.

In addition to the 5K, a one-mile Fun Run will be held for families.

Sunset SUP Series comes to Wrightsville Beach

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Interested in learning about or even trying to paddleboard? Then you’re in luck!

The Blockade Runner Beach Resort is set to host the 2012 Sunset SUP Series. Anyone that is interested is welcome to participate.

Results released for fishing tournament

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) - The Wilmington-Cape Fear Home Builders Association held its 4th annual Fish Tales Tournament on Aug. 18 at Dockside Restaurant and Marina, with more than 25 boat entries participating.

After the weigh in, cash and prizes were given out at an awards reception at the marina.

The following is a list of winners, per a news release from the Home Builders Association:

Trout (First place payout - $375.00)

First Luke Tippett 1.7 pounds

Second Kevin Gray 1.1 pounds

Third No Fish Weighed In

Wilmington-Cape Fear Home Builders Association hosting Fish Tales Tournament

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Local fishermen and women are in for a reel good time Saturday – the Wilmington-Cape Fear Home Builders Association is hosting its fourth annual Fish Tales Tournament at Dockside Restaurant and Marina.

Those participating in the event will be fishing for King Mackerel, Drum, Trout and Flounder, and an awards ceremony will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. There, cash and prizes will be handed out, valued at more than $8,000.
