The structure will be transported by a floating barge along the Intracoastal Waterway and will require the Wrightsville Beach drawbridge to be raised beginning at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19 until the transition under the bridge is complete. Seatbelts are a "life saver," so click it or ticket

Officers with the Wilmington Police Department are stepping up efforts to keep drivers safe on the roads.

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Officers with the Wilmington Police Department are stepping up efforts to keep drivers safe on the roads. Be sure to "click it" or face getting a ticket for not wearing your seatbelt.

WPD set up a check point in the area Wednesday to catch drivers not wearing a seatbelt. Nearly 100 people were cited for not buckling up.

"I mean, there's no way you could give me a warning," one driver suggested to the offer. "I have a great record. I don't ever get pulled over."

"This is Click it or Ticket, everyone's getting a citation. We want to make sure you buckle up," explained Officer Adam Schwuartzel.

While many drivers took out their frustrations of getting a ticket on the officer, law enforcement officials say they'd rather have someone mad at them than have to report a death caused by not wearing a seatbelt to a loved one.

Website could help drivers find parking in Wrightsville Beach

Park Hog is a website to connect people at the beach who want to rent out their driveways to people who are trying to find parking spaces.

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) - Many people on the beach, translates to few available parking spaces.

Mark Maynard who lives in Wrightsville Beach, believes an idea he came up with called ParkHog.com will bring relief to those beach goers who circle around numerous times, looking for somewhere to park.

"It's a website I came up with to connect people at the beach who want to rent out their driveways to people who are trying to find parking spaces. So it'll enable people to rent out their driveways," said Maynard.

Last week, the website was up and running, but Maynard has decided to pump the brakes on the idea.

"It turned out to be an ill conceived idea. It's actually against the law. It involves conducting a commercial activity with a residential zone district" said Maynard.
