WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) - The popularity of Wrightsville Beach's night life has prompted town leaders to consider a special taxi stand specifically for night owls.
The current situation has taxi drivers stopping in several spots, so a designated loading zone across from Lager Heads on North Lumina Avenue could organize the people ready for a ride home.
"If you've been down here at bar closing time, the streets are flooded with people," said Town Manager Bob Simpson.
Simpson said tests runs in the last couple of months proved the system would work. Signs would show the limited operating hours for the bar-scene shuttle service.
"The police chief has been meeting with the drivers, and they are on board with this," Simpson said.
This would be the third taxi stand in Wrightsville Beach. The Board of Alderman will vote on the issue at its Thursday night meeting.
