'Click it or Ticket' campaign celebrates 20 years

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Monday, May 20th marks the 20th anniversary of North Carolina DOT “Click or Ticket” campaign.

According to the press release, North Carolina was the first state to launch this safety program in 1993.

The release also states, The Click it or Ticket campaign runs through Memorial Day weekend and ends on June 2nd.  During this time officers will cite driver’s state wide who do not buckle up.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Sewer repairs to cause road closures on Thursday

WILMINGTON, NC  (WECT) – Cape Fear Public Utility Authority will be making sewer repairs around Wilmington, Thursday, May 16.

The intersection of Wellington Ave. and South 17th Street will be closed to drivers as repairs are taking place. A detour is in place for drivers there.

Also the eastbound turning lane on 1910 Eastwood Road near Sutherland Ave will be closed.

While a detour will be in place, CFPUA crews asks drivers to find an alternate route if possible, and to be alert and cautious around the work zones.

According to the release, repairs are necessary so crews improve the infrastructure to the sewer service and prevent sewer overflows.

Repairs will take place between 9am to 3pm at each location.

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) – The rehabilitation project on the Wrightsville beach drawbridge will cause overnight closure and periodic lane closures throughout the summer.

According to the North Carolina DOT press release, the Wrightsville Beach Draw Bridge will be closed to drivers overnight on Tuesday, April 23 through Wednesday, April 24 from 11:30pm to 5am.

Traffic will not be able to cross the bridge, except for emergency vehicles. Officers will be stationed on each side of the bridge during the closure. 

In addition, drivers can expect periodic lane closures throughout the rest of the project on Mondays through Thursdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Overnight Lane closures on Military Cut-Off & Eastwood Roads this week

WILMINGTON,NC (WECT) - North Carolina DOT is working on repaving projects along Eastwood Road.

Starting on Monday, April 15,  lane closures are expected on Military Cut-off Road from Viking Lane to Eastwood Road and Eastwood Road from east Cavalier Drive to Pavilion Plaza from 8 pm. to 6 am until Friday, April 19.

Expect delays if you are traveling in the area during the overnight hours.

Overnight lane closures on Wrightsville Beach Draw bridge

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) - According to the press release, drivers will encounter lane closures on the westbound side of the Wrightsville Beach Draw Bridge on Sunday April,14th through Tuesday, April 16th.

The closures will take place overnight from 9pm until 5am

This is nesscceray so DOT crews can repair  the steel bridge deck.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Portion of Cardinal Drive closed the rest of the week

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A portion of Cardinal Drive, between Market Street and Eastwood Road, will be closed to drivers on Monday, April 8th through Friday April 12th.

City Crews are installing three drainage pipes under the road. Residents of Long Leaf Acres and Inland Greens will have access to their neighborhoods from Market Street or Eastwood Road all week. 

According to the City of Wilmington press release, the storm water improvements will connect with the existing drainage system adjacent to the Port City Community Church and will help alleviate problem flooding in the Inland Greens neighborhood.
