WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) – As the weather has pushed the mercury to more than 100 degrees over the past few days, many are flocking to area beaches for some relief. But, not everyone can get away from the sizzling temperatures.
"It's not that hot. It's great. It's perfect," said Dekorea Jackson, who was spending a day at the beach after making a trip from Atlanta.
Brianna Montgomery spent Saturday and Sunday at Wrightsville Beach to get away from the heat further inland.
"We went to breakfast this morning a little further inland and we came out here and it just feels a ton better," she said.
But for those serving up breakfast, lunch and dinner, they have to be in the heat every day. Mike Wyatt is the kitchen supervisor at Casey's Buffet. The heat from outside and all the fryers, oven and other restaurant equipment pushed the temperature in the kitchen to almost 100 degrees.
"The extra temperature outdoors definitely adds a new perspective to it. We do our best to stay cool," Wyatt said.
One way he and his team do that is by having drinks nearby and taking breaks when necessary.
"We kind of refresh ourselves a little bit, work as a team and make sure everybody's staying hydrated," he said.
He said at the end of the day, he doesn't mind the heat because he knows it brings enjoyment to his customers.
"We put up with a little bit of suffering in for their enjoyment and we're just thankful for the opportunity," he said.
